Cittadella Publishing Company is one of the many activities carried out by the Pro Civitate Christiana, a lay association founded by Rev. Giovanni Rossi in Assisi (Central Italy) in 1939. The goal of the works it publishes is to make today’s men and women reflect on the fundamental problems of life and history, to provoke the fundamental question about faith, and to clarify the significance of choosing Christ and mankind and the commitment that this involves. In this light, the mystery of Christ and His message of human salvation are examined in great depth.

The biblical, theological and pastoral publications deal not only with acquired values, but they are also open to research that begins with the actual situations faced by mankind, makes use of the contributions made by the humanities and is sensitive to contemporary cultural trends (books by Fabris, Mateos, Latourelle, Maggi, Maggioni and  Vidal, among others).

These publications also broaden research horizons with the contributions that have emerged from other cultures and social contexts - the theology of liberation and solidarity in Latin America, Asia and Africa (books by Boff, Mesters, Paoli, Cardenal, Pieris, Jesudasan) - as well as from other religions (books by Conio, Dhavamony, Dupuis, Sono Fazion, Panikkar).

On the subject of man’s spiritual development, there has been a great increase recently in the number of works published on the humanities, particularly on both humanistic and transpersonal psychology (books by Boggio Gilot, Venturini, Wilber, Rosselli, Giordani).

These works, which are mainly theoretical in nature, are published alongside books offering insight into life witness, both in the context of current everyday problems as well as in extreme situations where there is a constant attempt to denounce anything that hampers man’s growth and liberation and to defend anything that will promote them.

In the past, books drawing a comparison between Christianity and various different ideologies have also been published. Today, we feel that our readers’ attention must be focused above all on serving man and on the commitment that everyone must undertake to work together towards resolving the most pressing problems faced by our world.
